There are many things I try to be consistent about its showing love, support to melanated spaces. The businesses, the entrepreneurs, curators, event planners, etc… but yesterday I was reminded of what these spaces invoke for me emotionally…
I reflect on this because I was a vendor at the Black Mall yesterday in Baltimore where I was selling my poetry books. It is ran by melanated people, the vendors melanated, audience etc… and relocating from Texas I cant recall times where it was so many of US and only US … and it feel like family, like a community… a slice of pie … sunlight after rain etc… it was the mix of social justice for Curtis Mcgee and others have been imprisoned under false pretenses.. though it isn’t joy for the situation, it is joy that there are still those who fight for the Curtis and others of the melanated community..
Followed by collection of dancing, singing, and poetry (I participated of course) and more performances and the overflow of talents… its nothing like it.. its the biggest hug you could receive from your grandmama and you don’t want to let her go because you will miss her as soon as you leave…
It’s joy that I wish I could bottle it up and have it with me always.
It filled my cup, it overflowed it. I had amazing food, community and an experience that I want more of….
these pockets of joy that really make life beautiful….
support melanated business… that is all..
p.s. there was also meditation and affirmations in this space as well, the energy was energizing
I love when we find spaces meant for us and by us. Fill my cup as well❤️❤️
